Living in Shropshire, my inspiration comes from the countryside around me and regular trips to the North Welsh coast.
In Shropshire - the furrows in the fields, the bare branches in winter, the patterns they make, the browns of the earth against the greens and the luminosity of the sky.
In Wales - the changing hue of the sea, the jewel like colours of the worlds within rock pools, the stone walls, the shapes of the fields, smooth and butting up against the rugged coastline.
My intention is to capture the beauty, joy and memories of the world through use of colour and texture. Some paintings are figurative and others are abstract. Both are addressing the same issues of composition and colour, drawing on organic shapes and forms and working in an intuitive way. The pictures convey a fascination with the effects of paint and how it is possible to make an image to get lost in and contemplate.
Where appropriate, I paint and often decorate my frames to complement the paintings.
